COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical with Trade Practice major combines academic mechanical engineering education with practical vocational training to prepare students for industry-ready technical roles. The program begins with foundational engineering units such as Applied Computational Modelling, Engineering Statics, Materials for Engineers, Engineering Dynamics, Fundamentals of Sustainable Energy, Creative Engineering, and Engineering Futures, which develop strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills. Students then progress into core mechanical engineering subjects including Fluid Mechanics, Structural Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Maintenance Engineering, Fluid Machinery concepts, Bulk Materials Handling, Design of Machine Elements, Energy Conversion, Mechanical Design Practice, and Capstone Thermofluid Engineering. These units provide a deep understanding of mechanical systems, thermal processes, machinery, and industrial equipment. A key feature of this major is the inclusion of Trade Practice units, which allow students to integrate an eligible TAFE qualification alongside their degree. Through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), vocational training can be credited toward the degree, strengthening hands-on technical competence. Dynamic System Modelling and Control enhances understanding of system behaviour and automation in mechanical systems. Overall, this major prepares graduates for careers in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, and industrial operations, combining theoretical knowledge with strong practical and trade-based skills for real-world engineering applications and industry readiness.
