COURSE CURRICULUM

The Electrical with Trade Practice major integrates academic electrical engineering studies with practical vocational training to prepare students for industry-ready technical roles. The program begins with foundational engineering and mathematics units such as Applied Computational Modelling, Fundamentals of Sustainable Energy, Engineering Statics, Materials for Engineers, and Engineering Futures, which develop strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Students then progress into core electrical engineering subjects including Electrical Circuit Analysis, Electrical Power Engineering, Signals and Systems, Introductory Electronics, Control Systems Analysis and Design, Power System Analysis and Design, Communication Technology, Electrical Machines and Drives Applications, Embedded Microcontrollers, and Power System Protection. These units build technical expertise in power systems, electronics, communication, and automation technologies. A key feature of this major is the inclusion of Trade Practice units, which allow students to integrate or combine a recognised TAFE qualification and gain hands-on industry experience. Through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), vocational training can be credited towards the degree, strengthening practical competency. Additional units such as Creative Engineering and Engineering Futures enhance innovation and professional skills. The Capstone Power and Control Design project integrates theoretical and practical learning in a real-world engineering context. Overall, this major prepares graduates for careers in electrical installation, maintenance, industrial systems, and power engineering, with a strong emphasis on practical skills and industry readiness.
