COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering major is designed to develop strong foundations in mathematics, physics, and engineering principles, followed by specialised civil engineering knowledge. It begins with core units such as Introduction to Contemporary Engineering, Engineering Statics, Materials for Engineers, Engineering Surveying and Spatial Sciences, Applied Mathematics, Applied Calculus, Engineering Industry Project Investigation, Engineering Futures, and Creative Engineering, which build essential analytical and problem-solving skills. Students then progress into major civil engineering subjects including Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics and Hydrology, Stress Analysis, Steel and Timber Design, Concrete Technology and Design, Structural and Geotechnical Design, Advanced Structural Analysis, Transport Systems, Traffic and Transportation Engineering, Water Supply and Wastewater Technology, and Water Resources Engineering. The program also includes construction and industry-focused units such as Building Law and Regulations, Building Industry Contracts, Building Contract Administration, Construction Economics, and Maintenance Engineering, which prepare students for real-world project and site management. Sustainability and modern engineering practices are covered through Fundamentals of Sustainable Energy and Humanitarian Engineering Project. Students can choose an elective from Engineering Employment Preparation, Engineering Leadership, or Engineering Business Fundamentals to enhance career readiness. Practical learning is included through Engineering Practice Experience (internship or placement) and a final honours project. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in civil infrastructure design, construction, water systems.
