COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil with Trade Practice Engineering major is designed to combine academic civil engineering studies with hands-on vocational training and industry experience. In the initial stage, students complete core engineering units such as Introduction to Contemporary Engineering, Engineering Industry Project Investigation, Foundation Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Applied Calculus, Engineering Practice Experience, Engineering Employment Preparation, Engineering Leadership, and Engineering Business Fundamentals. These units build essential problem-solving, communication, and professional engineering skills. The program then focuses on civil engineering fundamentals including Engineering Statics, Materials for Engineers, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Surveying and Spatial Sciences, Hydraulics and Hydrology, Transport Systems, Stress Analysis, Water Supply and Wastewater Technology, Steel and Timber Design, Concrete Technology and Design, Structural and Geotechnical Design, Traffic and Transportation Engineering, and Water Resources Engineering. Students also study Creative Engineering and Engineering Futures to strengthen innovation and design thinking. A key feature of this major is the inclusion of Trade Practice units, which allow students to integrate a recognised TAFE qualification and gain practical, industry-based skills. These Trade Practice units support Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), enabling students to apply vocational training towards their degree. This pathway is ideal for students who want both academic qualifications and hands-on technical experience. Overall, the program prepares graduates for civil engineering careers with strong practical skills, industry readiness, and expertise in construction, infrastructure, and trade-based engineering environments.
