COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil with Humanitarian Engineering major combines core civil engineering knowledge with a strong focus on social impact and community development. In the early stage, students complete core engineering units such as Introduction to Contemporary Engineering, Engineering Industry Project Investigation, Foundation Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Applied Calculus, Engineering Practice Experience, Engineering Employment Preparation, Engineering Leadership, and Engineering Business Fundamentals. These units build essential technical, analytical, and professional skills required for engineering practice. The major then advances into specialised civil engineering subjects including Engineering Statics, Materials for Engineers, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Surveying and Spatial Sciences, Hydraulics and Hydrology, Transport Systems, Stress Analysis, Water Supply and Wastewater Technology, Steel and Timber Design, Concrete Technology and Design, Structural and Geotechnical Design, Traffic and Transportation Engineering, and Water Resources Engineering. Alongside these technical areas, students study humanitarian-focused units such as Engineering in Society, Appropriate Technology for Humanitarian Projects, Humanitarian Engineering Project, and Disaster Resilient Infrastructure. These units emphasise solving real-world problems in underserved and vulnerable communities using sustainable, practical, and human-centred engineering solutions. Creative Engineering and Engineering Futures further enhance innovation and design thinking skills. Overall, this major prepares graduates to work as civil engineers with strong technical expertise and a humanitarian perspective, enabling them to design resilient infrastructure and deliver meaningful engineering solutions that improve lives and support community development globally.
