COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Agriculture requires the completion of 24 units (144 credits), consisting of eight core units, one eight-unit major, and one eight-unit minor. The program’s structure ensures a balance between foundational science, applied agricultural knowledge, and opportunities for specialization. The core units introduce students to essential concepts in agriculture and science, including Introduction to Agricultural Systems, Soil and Irrigation Management, Plant Science and Crop Production, and Plant and Livestock Breeding Strategies. These are complemented by scientific skill-based subjects such as Life Science Laboratory and Scientific Research Fundamentals. Students also explore the future of the industry in Agriculture Technology Transformation: The Future of Food and Fibre, while the Professional Placement or Project provides practical experience through either a work placement or research activity in an authentic professional setting.For those pursuing the Agronomy Major, the program offers a sequence of eight units that provide an in-depth understanding of crop and pasture management, sustainable production, and agricultural innovation. Units such as Livestock Production, Weeds, Pests and Plant Diseases, and Driving Productivity in Food Production Systems equip students with the ability to manage both plant and animal systems effectively. Advanced subjects like Sustainable Agricultural Development: Local and Global, Agricultural Extension, and Social Licence to Operate highlight the social, ethical, and global dimensions of agriculture. The major also includes highly applied subjects such as Agronomy and Rangeland and Pasture Management, many of which feature residential schools to ensure students gain valuable hands-on experience.By integrating science, sustainability, and industry practice, the course equips graduates with the knowledge and practical skills to improve agricultural productivity and sustainability across diverse farming and food production systems.
