COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the program, students begin by participating in a Design Charette during the January semester. This collaborative project brings together all students to work alongside a professional architect or guest lecturer to develop creative design ideas for a piece of local public infrastructure. The experience sets the tone for the rest of the year, emphasizing teamwork, real-world relevance, and innovative thinking. Throughout the year, students engage in a series of design studios that focus on critical architectural themes such as designing city regions, exploring the dynamics of global cities, and developing high-performance buildings. These studios are designed to build core design skills while fostering an understanding of the broader environmental, social, and technological contexts in which architects operate. Additionally, students explore how digital transformation is influencing architectural practices, gaining insight into the evolving role of technology in design, construction, and urban planning.In the second and final year, students deepen their architectural knowledge through advanced design studios and two general electives that allow for the exploration of specialized interests or complementary fields. A key component of this year is the design thesis, a major independent project that allows students to investigate a topic of personal or professional interest through a comprehensive design proposal. This thesis reflects the student's ability to synthesize learning, address complex challenges, and express their architectural vision. The final part of the year includes the 12-week Professional Portfolio unit, which provides valuable industry experience through either an internship, subject to meeting eligibility requirements, or a professional research project. This component is designed to prepare students for the transition into professional practice by developing relevant work skills, expanding industry networks, and providing practical insight into contemporary architectural challenges. Together, these elements ensure that graduates are well-equipped for future roles in the field.
