COURSE CURRICULUM
The Master of Actuarial Practice requires students to complete 160 credit points of carefully structured subjects that provide a comprehensive foundation in actuarial science, finance, economics, statistics, and data analytics. The program begins with core business and economic knowledge through Accounting Principles and Principles of Economics, ensuring students understand financial reporting, economic behaviour, and market dynamics. Quantitative capability is developed progressively through Mathematical Statistics, Financial Mathematics, Linear Models and Applied Econometrics, Macroeconomics, and Stochastic Processes, equipping students with strong probabilistic, statistical, and modelling skills. Advanced actuarial expertise is built through specialised subjects such as Contingencies, Survival Analysis, and Actuarial and Financial Models, which focus on modelling life insurance, superannuation, and financial risks across time. The Actuarial Control Cycle 1 and 2 subjects are central to the program, emphasising professional actuarial judgement, problem definition, solution design, implementation, monitoring, and communication in real-world contexts. Data-driven decision making is strengthened through Data Science and Statistical Learning and Regression Models, enabling students to analyse large datasets and apply modern predictive and analytical techniques. Financial expertise is further enhanced through Advanced Corporate Finance and Portfolio Analysis and Investments, providing insight into capital structure, valuation, investment strategies, and risk-return trade-offs. Collectively, these subjects integrate theory with practical application, preparing graduates to manage uncertainty, assess financial and insurance risks, and support strategic business decisions. The curriculum aligns with the accreditation requirements of the Actuaries Institute, positioning students for Part I and Part II professional recognition while developing the analytical, ethical, and professional skills required for actuarial careers in insurance, finance, investment, consulting, and risk management in a global business environment.
