COURSE CURRICULUM

This program is structured over five semesters on a full-time study load of three subjects per semester with a January start, providing a progressive pathway through accounting theory, practice, and professional development. In Semester 1, students begin with Accounting Principles, Accounting Information Systems, and Managerial Finance, learning fundamental accounting and financial concepts, procedures, and the critical evaluation and design of accounting information systems for managerial decision-making. Semester 2 builds on this foundation with Business Law, Financial Accounting and Reporting, and Management Accounting and Strategy, focusing on the principles, regulation, and standards that underpin the preparation of general-purpose financial statements. In Semester 3, students progress to advanced subjects including Advanced Financial Accounting and Reporting, Taxation Practice for Accountants, and Security Appraisal and Valuation, developing deeper technical expertise. Semester 4 centers on an Applied Research Project, where students integrate theories and frameworks from the program to conduct a supervised accounting research project, enhancing analytical, critical thinking, and practical research skills. In the final Semester 5, students undertake a 20-week professional portfolio through Work Integrated Learning, designed to support learning, personal development, and professional practice. This portfolio allows students to demonstrate both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise, often including an internship, and serves as a capstone to prepare graduates for professional accounting practice. Overall, the program combines foundational knowledge, advanced technical skills, applied research, and professional experience to equip students for careers in accounting and finance.
