ABOUT UNIVERSITY

Bond University, located in Robina on the Gold Coast, Queensland, is Australia's first private not-for-profit university, founded on 15 May 1989. It was established by Alan Bond, Harunori Takahashi, and Dr. Taro Tanioka in a joint venture to develop the university's land and buildings. The university's campus, initially covering 212 hectares, was built on what was previously the Burleigh Forest, a former pine plantation. The idea of creating a university began in the 1970s, with the Development Equity Corporation (DEC) proposing the project in 1986, which ultimately led to the formation of Bond University. The Queensland Parliament granted the university official status in 1987, and it began teaching in 1989 with an initial intake of 322 students.Bond University operates on a unique three-semester-per-year timetable and offers a range of accelerated undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The university celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2019, marking three decades of academic growth and development. Today, Bond University is known for its strong emphasis on teaching, offering a wide range of academic programs and maintaining a significant presence in Australian higher education.
