COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Teaching (Primary) (MTch (Prim)) includes a structured program of study designed to provide pre-service teachers with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience required to succeed in primary education. The course is built around two key streams of study: Core Education Units and Curriculum and Pedagogical Studies Units. Together, these ensure that graduates are equipped to address the diverse needs of learners and to teach effectively across the range of primary school subjects.The Core Education Units address critical issues in contemporary education, with a focus on developing a deep understanding of learners and their contexts. These units include Understanding Students with Special Education Needs, Exploring Indigenous Education, Exploring Educational Research & Diversity, and Introduction to Learning & Teaching. In addition, students study Managing the Primary Classroom, which equips them with classroom management strategies, and Preparation for the Christian Teaching Workplace, which helps integrate faith and teaching practice. Planning and Assessment for Teaching English develops the capacity to design and evaluate learning programs aligned with curriculum requirements. Collectively, these units prepare students to navigate complex educational environments with professionalism, inclusivity, and adaptability.The Curriculum and Pedagogical Studies Units provide subject-specific knowledge and teaching strategies across the core learning areas of the primary curriculum. These include Curriculum Studies in Teaching English I and Initial English, Teaching Mathematics I and II, Teaching Science & Technology, and Teaching Health & Physical Education. In addition, students complete studies in Teaching Primary Creative Arts and Historical Inquiry, Religion & Geographical Investigation in the Primary School. These units ensure graduates are not only confident in their subject knowledge but also in their ability to design engaging and effective learning experiences that meet curriculum standards.Overall, the combination of core and curriculum-focused units enables MTch (Prim) graduates to develop as reflective, skilled, and versatile educators capable of addressing diverse learning needs while contributing meaningfully to the holistic development of primary school students.
