COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Quantum Technology at ANU is a 96-unit program designed to equip students with advanced scientific and technical expertise in one of the fastest-growing fields in modern physics. The degree includes 24 units of compulsory coursework covering optical physics, rapid prototyping, systems integration, and core quantum technology, providing a strong foundation in both theory and practical implementation. Students also complete at least 12 units of integrative study through PHYS8750 Masters Special Topics in Physics, which may be taken multiple times to explore advanced or specialised topics. A further 12 units are completed in Science and Society courses, including subjects such as physics for future leaders and quantum industry, ensuring students understand both the technological and societal dimensions of quantum innovation. Core quantum mechanics training is provided through at least 6 units selected from introductory or advanced quantum mechanics courses. The program allows at least 18 units of electives from a wide range of disciplines, including machine learning, programming, electronics, control systems, cryptography, engineering, and materials science, enabling students to tailor their studies to specific interests. A maximum of 24 units may be taken as additional electives from ANU offerings. Capstone learning is embedded in advanced coursework such as PHYS8750, PHYS6701, and PHYS8702, ensuring strong practical and research-oriented training. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in the emerging quantum technology industry.
