COURSE CURRICULUM

Graduates in biotechnology are expected to apply their knowledge and skills to address novel and emerging problems in the field. This involves integrating foundational concepts in molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry with innovative biotechnological applications to devise solutions for challenges in healthcare, agriculture, environmental management, and industry. A key competency is the ability to interpret, synthesize, and critically analyse scientific literature. This enables graduates to stay informed of current advancements, identify gaps in existing research, and position their own work within the broader scientific context. Engaging with published literature also cultivates the critical thinking skills necessary to evaluate experimental design, data interpretation, and the validity of scientific conclusions.In addition to theoretical knowledge, graduates must demonstrate proficiency in basic laboratory techniques commonly used in biotechnology research. These include, but are not limited to, techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA cloning, spectrophotometry, and cell culture. Practical lab skills are essential for conducting reliable experiments and generating reproducible data. Furthermore, the ability to communicate research findings effectively is a crucial component of professional development. Graduates should be able to present their work to both peers and experienced researchers, fostering collaboration and feedback that can improve the quality of their research.Clear and coherent communication of scientific theory and results is expected in both written and oral formats. This includes writing laboratory reports, research papers, and grant proposals, as well as delivering presentations and participating in scientific discussions.
