Master of Applied Economics in Economics

Graduate-level training in applied economics and econometrics equips individuals with a robust set of empirical and analytical skills necessary to address complex contemporary economic issues. Through rigorous coursework and independent research, students learn to apply quantitative methods to real-world problems, developing effective and practical solutions grounded in data. A key component of this training is the ability to undertake independent research projects that not only demonstrate technical proficiency but also reflect a deep understanding of economic theory and intuition. This enables graduates to interpret statistical results meaningfully and to communicate their implications to both academic and non-academic audiences.Another essential skill is the ability to analyze the economic effects of policy changes across a wide range of fields, such as labor markets, environmental policy, international trade, public finance, and development economics. This involves critically evaluating empirical evidence to assess policy effectiveness and providing recommendations for improvement. Such analysis requires not just technical knowledge but also the ability to think creatively and contextually about economic behavior and incentives. In addition, graduates are expected to demonstrate strong programming skills and proficiency in statistical software such as R, Python, Stata, or SAS. These tools are vital for handling large datasets, conducting econometric analyses, and implementing models that test economic hypotheses. The ability to select appropriate methods, assess model validity, and interpret complex data patterns is essential for informing economic decisions in both the public and private sectors. Altogether, these competencies prepare graduates to contribute meaningfully to policy debates, academic research, and economic consulting, where data-driven insights are critical for solving pressing economic challenges. The integration of theory, data, and practical application defines the essence of applied economics and econometrics at the graduate level.
