COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Statistics requires completion of 144 units and is designed to build strong foundations in mathematical, computational, and applied statistical methods. Students may complete a maximum of 60 units at the 1000 level and must undertake at least 18 units at the 3000 level, including a minimum of 12 units in Transdisciplinary Problem-Solving courses. The degree includes a 48-unit statistics major, chosen from Applied Statistics, Probability and Stochastic Processes, Statistical Data Analytics, or Theoretical Statistics, providing focused expertise in a key area of statistical science. Core study includes compulsory courses in quantitative research methods and stochastic processes, ensuring students develop a strong understanding of probability theory and statistical reasoning. Students also complete foundational coursework in mathematical statistics and regression modelling, which are essential for data analysis and interpretation. In addition, the program requires 12 units of introductory mathematics, ensuring strong numerical and analytical skills through subjects such as mathematics and applications or advanced mathematics streams. Students further broaden their skill set through 12 units of supporting courses, which may include programming, scientific computing, mathematics, industry projects, or internship experiences. The remaining 48 units consist of electives offered by ANU, allowing flexibility to explore additional interests or complementary disciplines. Overall, the degree equips students with advanced statistical, computational, and analytical skills, preparing them for careers in data science, finance, government, research, technology, and a wide range of industries that rely on data-driven decision-making.
