COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (Advanced) (Honours) requires completion of 192 units and is designed to combine broad scientific training with an intensive research-focused honours pathway. Students may complete a maximum of 60 units at the 1000 level and must include at least 12 units in Transdisciplinary Problem-Solving courses. A defining feature of the program is the requirement to complete at least 24 units of honours pathway courses, alongside at least 30 units of advanced 3000-level science courses within an approved major. Students must also complete a minimum of 6 units in quantitative research skills, selected from approved courses in biology, psychology, environmental science, earth sciences, mathematics, or statistics. The program requires at least 132 units of science-related coursework, including foundational 1000-level subjects and, where relevant, introductory computing or programming courses. Students must also complete a 48-unit science major in a discipline such as physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, psychology, neuroscience, or environmental science. In addition, at least 24 units of further science study must be taken from areas not previously studied, ensuring breadth across scientific disciplines. The degree culminates in a 48-unit Honours specialisation, where students undertake advanced coursework and a substantial research project within their chosen field. Students must maintain strong academic performance, including a minimum 70% weighted average to progress and enter Honours. With 48 units of electives, students can further tailor their studies or complete additional majors, preparing them for research careers, industry roles, or postgraduate study.
