COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (Psychology) requires completion of 144 units and provides a structured, research-intensive pathway focused on the scientific study of human behaviour and mental processes. Students may complete a maximum of 60 units at the 1000 level, while at least 84 units must be taken within the Psychology (PSYC) discipline, ensuring strong subject specialisation. The degree also includes a minimum of 12 units in Transdisciplinary Problem-Solving courses, which develop broader analytical and applied thinking skills. Core study comprises 72 units of compulsory psychology courses covering major areas of the discipline, including introductory psychology, social psychology, cognition, biological bases of behaviour, personality, developmental psychology, culture and psychology, health psychology, and psychopathology across the lifespan. Students also undertake training in quantitative methods and advanced research methods, ensuring strong competence in psychological research design, data analysis, and interpretation. In addition, students complete at least 12 units of 3000-level psychology courses to build advanced disciplinary knowledge. The remaining 48 units are elective courses offered by ANU, allowing students to broaden their studies or complement psychology with other fields. Overall, the program provides a strong scientific foundation in psychology, combining theory, research training, and applied knowledge. It prepares graduates for further study, including Honours and postgraduate training, and supports career pathways in psychology, mental health, research, healthcare, education, and related professional fields.
