COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Finance, Economics and Statistics (Honours) at ANU is a 192-unit integrated program designed to provide rigorous training in economics, finance, and statistics with a strong mathematical and quantitative foundation. Students may complete a maximum of 60 units at the 1000-level and must complete at least 18 units of 3000-level coursework, along with a minimum of 12 units in Transdisciplinary Problem-Solving courses. The program includes 126 units of compulsory courses spanning all three disciplines and mathematics. These cover key areas such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, strategic thinking, econometrics, corporate finance, derivatives, investments, valuation, mathematical statistics, and statistical inference, alongside foundational mathematics and quantitative research methods. Students also develop advanced skills in modelling, data analysis, and financial decision-making through progressively higher-level coursework in economics, finance, and statistics. In addition, students complete 18 units of electives from approved ANU courses, which may include industry projects, internships, and advanced mathematics or statistical subjects. The final 48 units are dedicated to one of three Honours specialisations: Economics Honours, Finance Honours, or Statistics Honours, allowing students to focus their expertise in a chosen quantitative field. Progression requires maintaining a minimum 75% weighted average mark across the first 120 units; otherwise, students may transfer into the Bachelor of Economics. Overall, the degree is highly structured, mathematically intensive, and designed for students aiming for advanced professional or research careers in quantitative fields.
