COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) requires completion of 192 units and is designed to provide comprehensive training in engineering science, design, and systems thinking. Students may complete a maximum of 60 units at the 1000-level and must include at least 12 units of Transdisciplinary Problem-Solving courses to develop broader analytical and collaborative skills. The program includes 72 units of compulsory engineering courses covering key areas such as engineering design, mechanics, electronics, thermodynamics, signals and systems, computer systems, and systems-based design and analysis through sequential design courses (ENGN1211 to ENGN3301), along with practical experience. Students also complete a 12-unit capstone or individual project, such as ENGN4300 or ENGN4350, demonstrating advanced application of engineering knowledge. Foundational studies include 6 units of programming (such as COMP1100 or COMP1730), 6 units of physics, and 12 units of mathematics across two levels. Students then specialise by completing 48 units in an engineering major such as Aerospace Systems, Mechatronic Systems, Renewable Energy Systems, or Electronic and Communication Systems, with part of this counting toward core requirements. In addition, students complete 24 units of engineering electives and 24 units of general ANU electives, allowing breadth and interdisciplinary learning. The degree culminates in formal enrolment in an honours component, ensuring research and professional-level capability. Overall, the program integrates theory, design, and applied engineering practice to prepare graduates for complex, real-world engineering challenges.
