COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Economics requires completion of 144 units and is structured to provide strong training in economic theory, quantitative methods, and applied analysis. Students may complete a maximum of 60 units at the 1000-level and must complete at least 18 units of 3000-level courses in ECHI, ECON, or EMET to ensure advanced expertise. A minimum of 12 units must also be taken in Transdisciplinary Problem-Solving courses, supporting broader analytical and applied thinking skills. The core program includes 42 units of compulsory courses covering microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometric methods, and quantitative foundations, including ECON1101, ECON2101, ECON3101, ECON3102, EMET1001, EMET2007, and STAT1008. Students also complete additional foundational economics units such as ECON1100 or ECON1102 and ECON2016 or ECON2102. Beyond the core, students take at least 12 units of transdisciplinary economics courses, which may include behavioural economics, game theory, environmental economics, development economics, health economics, and policy-focused subjects. In addition, students must complete at least 18 units from an extended list of advanced economics courses, such as labour economics, financial economics, international economics, industrial organisation, econometrics, and applied economic analysis. The program also includes 12 units of electives from a wide range of ANU disciplines, alongside a total of at least 48 elective units overall, allowing flexibility and interdisciplinary study. Students may also pursue minors such as Econometrics or Strategy, Behaviour and Economics. Overall, the degree combines rigorous quantitative training with applied economic understanding to prepare graduates for diverse professional and academic pathways.
