COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Computing requires completion of 144 units, structured to build strong foundations in programming, computer science theory, mathematics, and advanced computing applications, while also offering flexibility through majors and electives. Students must complete at least 12 units in Transdisciplinary Problem-Solving courses and a minimum of 24 units in 3000- and 4000-level COMP courses to ensure advanced-level expertise. A maximum of 60 units may be taken at the 1000-level. Within the degree, students complete 96 units from core and structured course requirements. This includes introductory programming courses such as COMP1100 Programming as Problem Solving or its advanced version, COMP1110 Structured Programming or COMP1140, and a mathematics foundation course such as MATH1005 Discrete Mathematical Models or MATH2222 Introduction to Mathematical Thinking. Students also complete 24 units of core computing subjects, including COMP1600 Foundations of Computing, COMP2100 Software Construction, COMP2300 Computer Architecture, and COMP2400 Relational Databases. Beyond this, students take 48 units in Computer Science courses or choose a specialised computing major such as Cyber Security, Data Science, Software Development, Intelligent Systems, Human-Centred and Creative Computing, or Information Systems. Additionally, students complete 6 units from ICT-related courses across disciplines such as design, engineering, mathematics, statistics, management, or social sciences. The remaining 48 units are flexible electives offered by ANU, allowing further academic exploration and interdisciplinary learning. Overall, the program combines technical depth, theoretical grounding, and practical application to prepare graduates for diverse careers in the computing and technology sectors.
