Master of Teaching in Early Childhood and Primary

The Master of Teaching (Early Childhood and Primary) provides a comprehensive two-year pathway for graduates seeking professional preparation to teach children from birth through primary school. The first year establishes strong foundations in child development, learning, literacy, numeracy, technology, health, wellbeing and the arts. Students gain practical experience through professional placements, beginning with work alongside infants and toddlers before progressing to early childhood settings with children aged three to five years. The program also develops knowledge of reading and writing instruction, play-based learning, curriculum planning and assessment, ensuring students can respond effectively to children’s developmental and educational needs. In the second year, students advance their pedagogical practice and develop skills in teacher inquiry and evidence-based teaching. Units covering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and education, inclusive practice, science, sustainability, humanities and social sciences further broaden their professional understanding. Students continue to strengthen their expertise in English language and literacy and mathematics curriculum, pedagogy and assessment. The course also requires students to complete the LANTITE literacy and numeracy requirements, supporting their readiness for the teaching profession.
