COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Theology (Honours) program, when commenced in Semester 1 on a full-time basis, is structured as a focused one-year academic experience that combines advanced coursework with an extended research thesis. In the first semester, students complete two specified units alongside the initial stage of their thesis. The unit Thesis Writing and Research Methods develops the foundational skills needed for honours-level research, including academic writing, methodological awareness, literature engagement, and project planning. Students also take Special Studies in Theology 1, a unit that allows them to explore a specialised theological topic in greater depth under academic guidance. Complementing these coursework components is Honours Thesis A, a major full-time thesis unit that contributes significantly to the year’s overall credit load. This unit marks the beginning of the student’s independent research project, during which they formulate their research questions, establish a scholarly framework, and begin drafting substantial components of their thesis under supervision. In the second semester, students continue to refine their academic understanding through Special Studies in Theology 2, a follow-on unit that further enhances their knowledge in a specialised area relevant to their broader research interests. Alongside this, they undertake Honours Thesis B, the final and most substantial phase of their thesis. During this period, students complete their research, finalise their analysis, and produce a polished honours thesis that demonstrates advanced critical thinking, theological insight, and the ability to engage rigorously with complex scholarly material. Together, these components ensure that students graduate with developed research expertise, strong academic communication skills, and a deepened understanding of their chosen theological focus. The structure is designed to support a cohesive, immersive research experience that prepares students for further postgraduate study or careers requiring advanced analytical and interpretative abilities.
