COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice/Bachelor of Psychological Science combines the study of crime, justice and human behaviour to provide a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing offending, victimisation and rehabilitation. Across four years, students develop a strong foundation in psychology through subjects such as Foundations of Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Social Psychology, Personality and Individual Differences, Brain and Behaviour, Cognitive Psychology and Learning and Behaviour. Alongside this, criminology studies examine violent crime, juvenile justice, police studies, criminal law, forensic science, victimology, corrections, rehabilitation, border protection and biosecurity. The program also incorporates human rights, public law, research methods and community engagement, helping students understand crime within broader legal, social and ethical contexts. Practical and research-focused learning develops skills in psychological assessment, data analysis, critical thinking, evidence evaluation and professional communication. Graduates can apply this interdisciplinary knowledge across areas such as criminal justice, policing, corrections, rehabilitation, community services, victim support, government agencies, forensic services and research. The psychology sequence is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC), providing a pathway to further postgraduate psychology study, while the criminology component offers valuable preparation for justice-sector careers. By combining both disciplines, graduates gain a competitive advantage through their ability to understand both criminal behaviour and the systems designed to respond to it.
