COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Physiotherapy program is structured to provide a comprehensive progression of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional experience across four years of study. In the first year, students establish foundational knowledge through units such as Human Biology, Physiotherapy Anatomy, and Foundations of Physiotherapy Practice, alongside inter-professional studies in Psychology for Allied Health and a Core Curriculum unit. Year two builds on this foundation with advanced scientific and clinical content, including Pathophysiology, Neuroscience, Physical Activity and Exercise, and Musculoskeletal and Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy Practice, as well as Research and Evidence-Based Practice, allowing students to integrate theory with practical skills. In the third year, students advance into specialised practice areas including Musculoskeletal, Cardiorespiratory, Neurological, and Paediatric Physiotherapy, while continuing to engage with Core Curriculum units and inter-professional learning such as Health Care Ethics. The fourth year is dedicated to preparation for professional practice and extensive clinical placements, encompassing multiple Physiotherapy Clinical Practice units and Professional Physiotherapy Practice, ensuring students gain supervised, hands-on experience across diverse patient populations and healthcare settings. Units in this final year focus on integrating previously learned knowledge, refining clinical reasoning, and developing leadership, communication, and professional skills necessary for independent practice. Pre-requisites are carefully structured throughout the program to ensure students progress logically, consolidating foundational knowledge before advancing to complex clinical applications. All units are delivered in attendance mode unless otherwise indicated, supporting engagement with hands-on learning and collaboration. Overall, the course map reflects a carefully sequenced, comprehensive pathway, combining biomedical sciences, physiotherapy-specific practice, inter-professional learning, and core curriculum studies, designed to produce graduates who are clinically competent, ethically responsible, and fully prepared to meet the professional standards required for registration and practice as physiotherapists across a range of healthcare environments.
