COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Philosophy/Bachelor of Laws is a five-year double degree combining comprehensive legal education with extensive philosophical study. The program begins with foundational law subjects including Foundations of Law and Legal Research, Contract Law, Australian Public Law and Commercial Law, alongside philosophy subjects such as Philosophy: the Big Questions, Philosophy of World Religions and Theories of Human Nature or Introduction to Ethics. As students progress, they develop knowledge across criminal law, torts, business organisations, property, land law, civil procedure, evidence, constitutional law, equity and trusts, administrative law and international law. Philosophy studies explore justice, authority, human rights, contemporary moral problems and ethics, while numerous philosophy electives allow students to tailor their studies to their interests. Advanced options include Ethics, Justice and the Good Society, History of Philosophy Seminar, and Metaphysics and Epistemology Seminar. The program also includes Core Curriculum studies and practical legal experience through Community Legal Engagement Pro Bono and a Pro Bono/Legal Professional Experience placement. Students further complete law electives in their final years, providing opportunities to broaden their legal knowledge. Through this integrated structure, students develop critical thinking, textual analysis, logical reasoning, ethical awareness, research and persuasive communication skills. The combination of philosophy and law provides a strong foundation for understanding both the practical operation of the legal system and the ethical and theoretical principles that influence it, preparing graduates for diverse legal and professional careers.
