COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Human Rights/Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice provides a comprehensive five-year interdisciplinary program combining human rights, criminology, criminal justice, law, politics, history and philosophy. Students begin by developing foundational knowledge through subjects such as Introduction to Criminology, Violent Crime and Society, Legal Institutions and Human Rights, Juvenile Justice and Criminal Justice System and Policy. As the course progresses, students explore specialised areas including forensic psychology, police studies, forensic science, victimology, criminal law, criminological research, border protection and biosecurity, corrections and rehabilitation, cybercrime and community engagement. The human rights component examines Indigenous peoples, Australian human rights law and policy, international humanitarian law, human rights advocacy and contemporary moral issues, supported by studies in ethics, justice, history and global politics. This combination enables students to understand crime and criminal justice while critically examining how these systems affect human rights, equality and social justice. Research-focused subjects develop skills in evidence gathering, analysis, critical thinking and ethical investigation, while community engagement provides opportunities to connect academic learning with real-world issues. Graduates can pursue diverse careers in human rights advocacy, criminal justice, policing, corrections, government, policy, community services, victim support, border protection, research and international organisations. The double degree is particularly valuable for students seeking to address crime and social injustice while promoting human rights and contributing to safer, fairer communities in Australia and globally.
