Bachelor of Education (Secondary)/Bachelor of Exercise Science

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary)/Bachelor of Exercise Science combines teacher education with comprehensive study in health, physical education, and exercise science over four years. In Year 1, students develop foundations in learning and teaching, literacy and numeracy, human biology, sports skills, anatomy, and growth and motor development. Year 2 introduces professional teacher preparation through effective teaching, curriculum planning, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, motor control, wellbeing, gymnastics, and dance, alongside the first two supervised professional experiences. Year 3 focuses on developing advanced teaching capabilities, including positive learning environments, inclusive education, Health and Physical Education pedagogy, outdoor education, sport and exercise psychology, community engagement, and exercise physiology. Students progressively gain practical school experience while strengthening their understanding of adolescent health and physical activity. In Year 4, the program emphasises assessment and data-informed teaching, reflective practice, professional identity, youth strength and fitness, aquatics, athletics, healthy relationships, and challenges affecting young people’s health. The final year also prepares students for senior secondary curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment. Across the degree, students develop both theoretical knowledge and practical teaching skills through structured professional placements, progressing from guided classroom experiences to more independent teaching. Overall, the program prepares graduates to become confident, reflective, inclusive, and knowledgeable secondary Health and Physical Education teachers with strong expertise in exercise science, youth wellbeing, and physical performance.
