Bachelor of Education in Primary

The Bachelor of Education (Primary) is a four-year program combining education studies, primary curriculum knowledge, teaching pedagogy, and extensive professional experience. In the first year, students study foundational subjects including Understanding Learning and Teaching, Foundations of Literacy, Foundations of Primary Science, Understanding Learners and Their Contexts, Contemporary Learning Cultures and Contexts, Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching, and Teaching The Arts: Dance and Drama. Students also complete the required LANTITE literacy and numeracy tests. The second year introduces professional teaching practice through Effective Teaching units and placements of 15 and 20 days, alongside studies in mathematics, humanities and social sciences, children's literature, science, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, histories, and cultures. In the third year, students develop advanced teaching capabilities through further professional experience and subjects covering English, literacy, mathematics, inclusive education, disability, social justice, and community engagement. Philosophy of Education and elective opportunities further broaden their preparation. The fourth year focuses on advanced professional practice, including assessment and data-informed teaching, reflective practice, professional identity, Arts education, Technologies, and Health and Physical Education. Students complete a further 25-day professional experience placement, gaining practical classroom experience. The program also offers flexibility to include Religious Education or other electives, enabling students to develop additional specialist capabilities. Overall, the course prepares graduates to become confident, inclusive, reflective, and effective primary teachers.
