Bachelor of Education in Primary and Secondary (with Religious Education)

The Bachelor of Education (Primary and Secondary) with Religious Education provides a comprehensive five-year pathway that combines education studies, primary teaching expertise, secondary teaching preparation and specialised Religious Education. The program begins with foundations in learning and teaching, literacy, children’s literature and mathematical knowledge, alongside the student’s chosen first teaching area. As students progress, they develop practical teaching capabilities through subjects such as English, science, mathematics, health and physical education, technologies, the arts, and humanities and social sciences curriculum, pedagogy and assessment. The degree places strong emphasis on professional preparation, with progressively increasing school-based experiences of 15, 20 and 25 days, allowing students to observe, practise and refine their teaching skills in authentic classroom environments. Education studies also address Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, inclusive education, social justice, community engagement, assessment and data-informed practice, and professional identity. Religious Education forms a dedicated teaching area throughout the course, with six specialised units supporting students who wish to develop expertise in this field. Students also complete the LANTITE literacy and numeracy requirements as part of their teacher education journey. By integrating primary and secondary curriculum knowledge with professional teaching practice and Religious Education, the program develops adaptable, reflective and confident educators prepared to support diverse learners and contribute meaningfully to schools and communities.
