Bachelor of Arts/Master of Teaching (Secondary)

The Bachelor of Arts/Master of Teaching (Secondary) is a four-year fast-track program that allows students to complete the Bachelor of Arts component within approximately 2.5 years before progressing through advanced teacher education studies. In the first two years, students complete their chosen Arts major or combination of majors, minors, and electives while undertaking Education Studies subjects such as Understanding Learners and Their Contexts, Understanding Learning and Teaching, and Curriculum and Planning for Secondary Teaching. Students also complete Core Curriculum units and the required Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE). The program provides flexibility to prepare for different teaching combinations, including two major teaching areas, one major with up to two minors, or a major and minor with Religious Education accreditation. In the third year, students complete advanced Arts subjects, Social Impact in Action, and begin specialised secondary teacher education through Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment units for their selected teaching areas. They also undertake Effective Teaching 1 with 25 days of professional experience. The fourth year focuses primarily on professional teacher preparation, including Inclusive Practice, senior Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment, Applied Educational Assessment, Literacy and Numeracy across the Secondary Curriculum, and Effective Teaching units. Students complete substantial school-based professional experience, including 25 days in Effective Teaching 2 and 30 days in Effective Teaching 3, developing practical skills for successful secondary teaching.
