COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Information Technology with a specialisation in Artificial Intelligence is designed to provide students with both foundational IT knowledge and advanced expertise in AI concepts and applications. To complete the program, students are required to undertake a total of twelve units, equivalent to 96 credit points, including seven core units, three specialisation units, and two electives from approved options. The core units establish essential knowledge across key IT areas, beginning with Information Systems, Data and Information Management, and Software and Systems Design, which provide students with a solid grounding in system architecture, programming, and data handling. Research Methods and Data Analysis equips students with analytical and investigative skills necessary for evaluating complex data and conducting applied research. Computer Networks and Security introduces fundamental principles of secure networking, while Project Constraint Management develops students’ capabilities in planning, scheduling, and managing technical projects. The program culminates in the Applied Project, allowing students to synthesise their learning and demonstrate the ability to design, implement, and evaluate AI solutions in real-world scenarios. Each core unit carries eight credit points, representing 0.167 Equivalent Full-Time Student Load (EFTSL), and prerequisites are structured to ensure students progress through the curriculum in a logical sequence. Alongside the core curriculum, students complete three specialisation units that focus on advanced AI topics such as machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and ethical AI. Two elective units offer flexibility, allowing students to explore areas aligned with their career goals or emerging industry trends. Overall, the course structure ensures graduates develop technical proficiency, practical experience, and strategic thinking skills, preparing them for careers as AI engineers, data scientists, machine learning specialists, AI consultants, and other roles where the application of AI drives innovation and problem-solving across diverse industries.
