COURSE CURRICULUM

The course structure for this program requires students to complete a total of twenty-four units, adding up to 144 credit points, in order to qualify for the award. This includes eleven core units, six specialisation units, and seven additional electives chosen from the BIS, ICT, or BUS offerings that have not already been selected. The core units are designed to build a strong foundation in information systems, programming, business communication, and professional skills while also developing advanced knowledge in systems design, enterprise architecture, and project management. Students begin with introductory subjects such as Foundations of Information Systems, Data and Information Management, and Introduction to Programming, all carrying six credit points and requiring no prerequisites. As they progress, they undertake intermediate units including IT Infrastructure and Networking, Systems Analysis and Design, IS Project Management, and Enterprise Architecture, each requiring completion of the foundational BIS1001 unit. The course also integrates essential business-focused units such as Professional Development and Business Communication and Sustainability and Ethics to ensure students gain communication, teamwork, and ethical decision-making skills needed in professional environments. Towards the end of the degree, students complete a two-part industry capstone project consisting of IT Capstone Industry Project A and IT Capstone Industry Project B. These units allow students to apply their theoretical knowledge to real-world problems by working on practical industry-based projects under academic supervision. Project A has prerequisites including Sustainability and Ethics and IS Project Management, while Project B requires successful completion of Project A. Altogether, the combination of core units, specialised subjects, and electives provides students with both the technical expertise and professional skills required for careers in information systems, networking, development, business technology, and various other IT-related fields, supporting a well-rounded and industry-aligned learning experience.
