ABOUT UNIVERSITY

Arkansas State University (ASU or A-State) is a public research university located in Jonesboro, Arkansas, United States. It serves as the flagship campus of the Arkansas State University System and is the second-largest university in the state. The university was established in 1909 atop Crowley’s Ridge and spans 1,376 acres. It holds an "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity" classification.ASU began as the First District Agricultural School, created by the Arkansas Legislature as a regional training school. Robert W. Glover, a legislator and Baptist pastor, was instrumental in its founding, advocating for the creation of four state agricultural colleges. In 1918, ASU introduced a two-year college program and later became the First District Agricultural and Mechanical College in 1925. By 1930, it had launched a four-year degree program and changed its name to Arkansas State College in 1933. Finally, in 1967, it was granted university status and renamed Arkansas State University.
