The course structure is designed to progressively develop students’ foundational knowledge, analytical skills, and applied expertise in health and public health across three years of study. In Year 1, students establish a strong base for professional health practice. Semester 1 introduces foundational concepts in professional health practice, while Semester 2 builds essential quantitative and cultural understanding through biostatistics, epidemiology, and Indigenous cultures and health behaviours. Alongside these core units, students select from a wide range of option units covering biomedical sciences, psychology, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, public health, social work, and allied health disciplines. This flexible selection allows students to tailor their learning to their interests while gaining broad exposure to health sciences and human wellbeing. In Year 2, the focus shifts toward public health systems, population health, and applied health psychology. Students study big data and health, health psychology, and introductory public health, followed by applied epidemiology, Australian health care systems, and mental health and social inclusion. Elective options in Semester 2 enable further specialisation in areas such as health promotion, disease prevention, anatomy, social psychology, health data governance, sustainability, or workplace and internship experiences, strengthening both theoretical understanding and practical skills. In Year 3, students consolidate and apply their learning through advanced research and practice-focused units. Core studies include applied research and biostatistics and health promotion planning and evaluation. Students then complete an alternate core specialisation, choosing from health data, health sciences, or pre-masters pathways in areas such as public health, health administration, occupational health and safety, or sexology. Additional options allow students to deepen expertise in global and planetary health, applied public health practice, health promotion, neuroscience, medical pathophysiology, or emerging areas such as artificial intelligence and climate change and health. Overall, the course structure combines flexibility, depth, and applied learning to prepare graduates for diverse health-related careers or further postgraduate study.
