COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Paramedicine is a 240-credit-point degree designed to prepare students for professional paramedic practice through a combination of scientific knowledge, clinical skills, and hands-on industry experience. The program includes 230 credit points of core units covering anatomy and physiology, microbiology, cellular biology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, healthcare systems, sociology, communication skills, and First Nations health perspectives. Students develop advanced clinical knowledge in trauma studies, emergency medicine, obstetrics, women’s health, paediatrics, mental health response, and pre-hospital emergency care. The course places strong emphasis on practical learning through clinical skills training, advanced resuscitation practice, and multiple professional placement units where students gain real-world experience in ambulance and emergency healthcare settings. Students also study reflective practice and leadership in community paramedicine, preparing them for professional responsibilities and teamwork in high-pressure healthcare environments. Clinical placements are integrated throughout the degree, including three major paramedic placement units that help students apply theoretical knowledge to real patient care situations. In addition to core studies, students can choose an elective unit, with aeromedical retrieval strongly recommended for those interested in emergency transport medicine. Overall, the program combines academic study, simulation learning, and extensive practical training to prepare graduates for careers as skilled paramedics capable of delivering emergency healthcare in urban, regional, and remote communities across Australia.
