The Bachelor of Public Policy requires the completion of 144 units and provides students with a strong foundation in policy analysis, research methods, governance, and public decision-making. Students may complete a maximum of 60 units at the 1000 level and must undertake at least 18 units at the 3000 level, including a minimum of 12 units in Transdisciplinary Problem-Solving courses. The degree includes at least 72 units of core public policy study, beginning with compulsory courses in political science research methods, public policy theory and practice, and social policy. Students also complete introductory coursework in areas such as economics, population studies, and sociology to develop a broad understanding of social and economic issues that influence policymaking. The program emphasises evidence-based policy analysis through advanced training in quantitative and qualitative research methods, econometrics, demographic analysis, and data-driven decision-making. Students further explore public policy theory through subjects covering public sector economics, public choice, social inequality, bureaucracy, power, and policy ethics. Practical policy applications form a key component of the degree, with opportunities to study topics such as health policy, environmental policy, crime prevention, Indigenous public policy, economic development, and population policy. Many students can also gain professional experience through internships and research placements, including the Australian National Internships Program. With 60 to 72 units of electives, the degree offers considerable flexibility while preparing graduates for careers in government, public administration, policy analysis, advocacy, consulting, community services, and international organisations.
