The Bachelor of Science degree structure for students beginning in Trimester 2, 2025, is designed to offer both a strong scientific foundation and the flexibility to tailor studies to individual interests and career goals. Students must complete a total of 240 credit points, comprising 100 credit points from the Core Module, 60 credit points from one Major within the Major Module, and 80 credit points from the Flexible Module.Students who are required to meet English language proficiency must complete the Language and Communication for Sciences course (5903LHS) in their first trimester. This course replaces an elective and is only available to students whose first language is not English. The Core Module includes 80 credit points of compulsory courses that build foundational skills in scientific literacy, mathematics, and key disciplinary knowledge. These core courses include Quantitative Reasoning (1015SCG), Statistics (1014SCG), Biological Systems (1041SCG), Chemistry I and II (1411ESC and 1422ESC), Genetics and Evolutionary Biology (1042SCG), Science in Practice (2207ESC), and Applied Data Science (2291ENV). These subjects ensure all students develop essential skills in scientific thinking, data analysis, and interdisciplinary understanding. In addition to the core courses, students must complete 20 credit points from the Core Course Options. These include the Work Integrated Learning Placement (3900ESC) or one of two Science Capstone streams (3992NSC_Y1 or 3992NSC_Y2), allowing students to apply their learning in a real-world or research setting.Students then specialise by selecting one major worth 60 credit points from one of five streams: Chemistry, Applied Maths and Physics, Biosciences, Environmental Sciences, or Archaeology and Geography. These streams allow students to focus on their area of interest, gaining deeper knowledge and skills relevant to specific scientific fields. The remaining 80 credit points are taken from the Flexible Module, giving students the freedom to broaden their education by selecting electives from across disciplines, pursue a minor, or enhance their major with complementary courses. This degree structure provides a balance of depth and breadth, preparing graduates for a wide range of careers or further study in science and related fields.
