The Bachelor of Pharmacology and Toxicology degree structure for Trimester 2, 2025, is designed to provide a strong scientific foundation and practical experience in the field of medicine, with a particular focus on drug development and toxicology. Students are required to complete 160 credit points across core and flexible modules. The program begins with introductory courses such as Medicines – Discovery to Practice I, Foundations of Health Sciences, Chemistry of Biological Systems I, and Anatomy and Physiology Systems I. These are followed by second-trimester courses including Anatomy and Physiology Systems II, Chemistry of Biological Systems II, and Pharmacy Practice I, alongside a broader understanding of the Australian healthcare system through the Primary Healthcare in Australia course. As students progress, they study core pharmacological concepts through courses like Pharmacology, Structure, Function and Drug Action, and Pharmaceutical Analysis. In later trimesters, the focus shifts to more specialized topics, including Medicines – Discovery to Practice II, Chemical Pharmacology I and II, Drug and Chemical Toxicology, and Evidence-Based Practice. A key feature of the program is the Industry Placement course, which gives students hands-on experience in a real-world setting and strengthens their professional readiness. The Introduction to Biostatistics course further supports students' ability to analyze and interpret scientific data. International students required to meet English language enhancement must complete the Language and Communication for Health course (5902LHS) in their first trimester in place of a Flexible Module course. This degree structure ensures students graduate with the essential scientific knowledge, analytical skills, and industry exposure to pursue careers in pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutical research, or further study in related health sciences.
