The Diploma of Health Sciences is structured over three trimesters, although international students should note that Trimester 3 may not be available for certain Bachelor degree programs that only intake students in Trimester 1. In the first trimester, students study Core Maths Skills, Cells, Tissues and Regulation, and choose between English Language and Communication for Health or Academic and Professional Skills Development for Science and Technology. These courses establish a foundation in mathematics, cell biology, and communication or academic skills essential for health science studies. In the second trimester, the focus shifts to Chemistry of Biological Systems 1, Anatomy and Physiology Systems 1, and a choice between Genes and Disease or two introductory psychology courses. These subjects broaden students' understanding of the chemical and biological processes in living organisms, human anatomy and physiology, and introduce psychological concepts relevant to health sciences. The third trimester builds on this knowledge with Chemistry of Biological Systems II and Anatomy and Physiology Systems II, which further deepen understanding of biological chemistry and bodily systems. Additionally, students study Health Challenges for the 21st Century, a course that explores contemporary health issues and their impact on individuals and populations. This program structure equips students with a strong grounding in biological and biochemical sciences, alongside interdisciplinary knowledge in psychology and health challenges. Completion of the diploma provides pathways into the second year of various health science degrees at Griffith University, preparing students for advanced studies and careers in the health sector.
