The Master of Forensic Science is a postgraduate program designed for science graduates who wish to strengthen their expertise in forensic investigation and build the professional skills required for advanced career roles. The program develops students’ ability to utilise the latest tools and techniques in forensic science, equipping them to conduct investigations that are both scientific and objective. With an emphasis on practical application, students learn how chemical and biological methods are used to analyse, evaluate, and interpret evidence within a forensic context. By combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on training, the degree ensures graduates can approach complex investigative challenges with precision and confidence.A unique feature of the program is the opportunity to specialise through elective units, allowing students to tailor their studies to their interests and background. Two focus areas are offered: Forensic and Analytical Chemistry, designed for students with a chemistry background at second-year level or above, and Forensic Biology, aimed at those who have studied biology to a similar level. This structure ensures that students can deepen their knowledge in their chosen discipline while gaining broader forensic expertise.Core topics in the program may include Advanced Professional Skills, which prepares students for leadership and senior roles by developing communication, management, and critical thinking abilities; Forensic Criminalistics, focusing on the analysis of physical evidence; Crime Scene Management, which examines strategies for preserving and documenting evidence; and Evidence Evaluation, where students learn methods to critically assess the reliability of forensic findings. The Masters Research Project serves as a capstone experience, enabling students to apply their learning to an independent investigation in forensic chemistry or biology. Graduates leave the program prepared for careers in forensic science–related industries, law enforcement, government agencies, or further research at higher degree levels.
