Course Curriculum

The Master of Archaeology and Heritage Management offers a comprehensive program designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and skills in archaeology and cultural heritage practice. The course provides opportunities to specialise in areas such as heritage management, maritime archaeology, rock art, historical and Indigenous archaeology, cultural heritage legislation, forensic archaeology, and field methods. Students may also broaden their expertise by selecting topics from related disciplines, including environmental studies and tourism.A central feature of the program is the opportunity to undertake a substantial independent research project (thesis) under the guidance of experienced academic archaeologists. This allows students to investigate areas of personal or professional interest, refine their research skills, and make a significant contribution to the field of archaeology and heritage management.The program places strong emphasis on practical experience, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for professional practice. Students gain hands-on training in research methods and fieldwork, including archaeological survey and excavation, laboratory analysis, archival and oral history research, and the application of geomatics and digital technologies in archaeology.
