Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Speech Pathology at Flinders University is carefully structured to guide students from foundational knowledge to advanced clinical expertise, ensuring they are fully prepared for professional practice. In the first year, students are introduced to essential sciences and foundational concepts, including human bioscience, linguistics and phonetics, child development and learning, as well as the psychosocial aspects of speech pathology. The second year moves into more specialized areas, focusing on communication development and disorders, motor speech disorders, voice and swallowing disorders, and the development of clinical skills through practice. By the third year, students are immersed in advanced clinical training with a strong practical focus. They study acquired language disorders, explore complex practice scenarios, and examine complex disorders in adults, all while undertaking speech pathology practicums that provide real-world, hands-on experience. In the fourth year, the emphasis shifts toward professional readiness and research. Students engage in research and practice in speech pathology, continue with advanced practicum placements, and focus on the transition to professional practice.
