Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Science (Biomedical and Molecular Science) at Flinders University provides a progressive curriculum that combines foundational scientific knowledge, practical experience, and research-driven learning to prepare students for careers in health, biotechnology, environmental science, and research. In the first year, students develop core knowledge in the Molecular Basis of Life, Evolution, and Chemistry, integrating laboratory-based practical sessions with problem-based learning and workshop-assisted theory. This combination ensures a strong grounding in key scientific principles while developing critical thinking and experimental skills.In the second year, students expand their understanding of molecular and biochemical processes while integrating applied life sciences topics, including medical, plant, and microbiology studies. This stage focuses on developing innovative problem-solving skills and practical techniques, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world biological challenges. Electives and applied modules provide flexibility to explore individual interests and emerging areas of biomedical and molecular science.The third year emphasises research-driven learning and real-world applications. Students participate in collaborative projects and work simulations that integrate theoretical knowledge with practical experience, preparing them for the workforce or advanced academic study. This year develops competencies in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific communication, while laying the foundation for Honours or postgraduate research opportunities.Graduates of the program are equipped with a comprehensive understanding of biological systems, practical laboratory and computational skills, and the ability to address complex problems in biomedical research, biotechnology, environmental health, and related fields. The degree also prepares students for further study at the Honours or PhD level, providing the expertise and professional skills necessary to contribute meaningfully to science, healthcare, and environmental solutions.
