In the first year of the Bachelor of Performance (Theatre Making) at Flinders University, students build a strong foundation in both creative practice and performance studies. Core topics may include theatre, drama, communication, production laboratory, acting and creative arts. Alongside these, students can broaden their knowledge by selecting two option topics that align with their personal interests and career aspirations. This year provides a solid base for developing creative expression and technical skills while introducing students to collaborative and professional practices. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of performance and production through a combination of practical and theoretical studies. Core topics may include production laboratory, performance and modern theatre, with the addition of major topics that expand specialist knowledge in areas such as writing, design or directing. This stage of the program emphasizes creative exploration, interdisciplinary collaboration and the integration of performance-making with academic inquiry. In the third year, students advance to more complex creative projects and independent learning. Core topics may include contemporary Australian repertoire, production laboratory and the artist as researcher, along with major topics that allow for specialisation in chosen areas of theatre-making. This final year focuses on refining artistic identity, critical reflection and preparing for professional practice in the performance industry. Students graduate with the ability to take creative ideas from concept to stage or screen, equipped with the diverse skills needed for a sustainable career in theatre and related creative fields.
