The Bachelor of Laws at Flinders University provides a comprehensive and progressive legal education designed to prepare students for professional practice and leadership in the legal field. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in essential legal knowledge and skills through core topics such as Legal Innovation, Introduction to Law and Justice, Essential Legal Skills, Contracts, Ethics and Professionalism, Indigenous Peoples, Colonialism and Law, and Criminal Law and Procedure. These subjects introduce students to both the theoretical and practical aspects of law while equipping them with the analytical and professional skills needed for future study.The second year expands on this foundation with core topics including International Law and Global Perspectives, Torts, Property, Equity and Trusts, The Digital Lawyer, Jurisprudence, Real Property Law, and Corporate Law. Students also choose an option topic to begin tailoring their degree to personal interests and career aspirations. This year emphasizes the application of legal theory to real-world issues and develops problem-solving, critical thinking, and professional competencies.In the third year, students engage with advanced legal topics such as Law in Action, Administrative Law, Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, and Evidence, alongside three option topics that allow further specialisation. This stage encourages students to apply their legal knowledge in practical and contemporary contexts, preparing them for complex challenges in the legal profession.The fourth year focuses primarily on three option topics, enabling students to deepen expertise in specific areas of interest and prepare for professional practice or further study. The combination of core subjects, applied learning, and elective options ensures graduates of the Bachelor of Laws possess a well-rounded legal education, strong analytical and professional skills, and the flexibility to pursue diverse career pathways in law, policy, advocacy, or related fields.
