The Bachelor of Information Technology (Network and Cybersecurity Systems) provides a progressive learning journey that combines foundational IT knowledge with specialist training in communication systems, network engineering, and cybersecurity. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of computing and computer programming, while also exploring electronics, introductory networks and cybersecurity, and professional skills that are vital for workplace readiness. Mathematics, mathematics fundamentals, or data science topics are included to strengthen analytical and problem-solving abilities. Building on this foundation, the second year delves deeper into core IT areas such as software engineering, advanced programming, computer networks and operating systems, web-based systems development, and cybersecurity. Students also have the opportunity to explore elective computing topics that allow them to tailor their studies to emerging interests. By the third year, the focus shifts to advanced, enterprise-level systems and security. Core topics include enterprise information security, enterprise cloud systems, network engineering, and project management for engineering and science. At this stage, students can either undertake an IT project supported by elective studies or participate in a professional IT practicum with workplace preparation, providing valuable real-world industry experience. The honours year offers the chance to further specialise and consolidate expertise through an independent major thesis project, alongside a tailored selection of computer, science, engineering, and mathematics topics. This structure ensures that graduates not only gain broad-based IT skills but also advanced knowledge in cybersecurity and network design, equipping them with the high-demand qualifications sought after in government, defence, business, and international technology sectors. With its combination of theory, practice, and industry engagement, the degree prepares students to design, secure, and manage complex communication systems and networks in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
