Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Game Development) at Flinders University provides students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to create immersive and interactive digital games. The degree combines technical expertise, creative practice, and industry engagement, preparing graduates for careers in game development, interactive media, and digital entertainment.In the first year, students build a foundation in computing and game design. Core topics include computer programming, fundamentals of computing, game design, and web and database systems. These subjects develop essential technical and analytical skills while introducing the principles of interactive entertainment and software development.The second year focuses on intermediate and specialised topics. Students study game programming, computer graphics, systems analysis and design, and human-centred computing. This year emphasises both the technical skills needed to develop games and the understanding of user experience, interface design, and interactive storytelling. Students gain hands-on experience creating playable game prototypes and applying programming techniques to interactive environments.In the third year, students advance to professional-level game development. Core topics include game development studio, IT professional practice and project, mobile app development, and advanced visualisation. Students undertake collaborative projects in a studio environment, simulating professional game development workflows and producing portfolio-ready projects. The curriculum also incorporates real-world industry practices, ensuring students are prepared to meet the demands of the competitive gaming sector.Graduates of the program are equipped to pursue careers as game programmers, designers, technical artists, mobile app developers, or interactive media specialists.
