The Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between food, health, and disease prevention while equipping them with the skills to make a tangible impact on individual and community wellbeing. In the first year, students build a strong foundation with core topics in the fundamentals of biology and science, the molecular basis of life, food systems, and nutrition, physical activity, and health. They also study general chemistry and chemistry for the life sciences, alongside fundamental research and study skills, preparing them for more advanced learning in subsequent years. In the second year, the program focuses on human physiology, nutrition across the life course, and food products and preparation. Students also explore individual, social, and environmental perspectives on food consumption, developing an understanding of how dietary habits influence health at both personal and societal levels. Research design and interpretation are emphasised, and electives allow students to begin tailoring their studies to their chosen minor or area of specialisation. The third year deepens students’ expertise with core topics covering the role and function of nutrients, public health and community nutrition, nutrition communications, behavioural science, and research methods. Elective subjects provide further flexibility to explore areas of interest or complete a self-directed industry placement, allowing students to gain practical, hands-on experience in real-world settings.Throughout the degree, students integrate scientific knowledge with applied practice, learning how to design and implement evidence-based interventions that promote healthy behaviours and prevent disease. Graduates are well-prepared for careers as dietitians, nutritionists, public health practitioners, or community health advisors, and the program also provides a strong foundation for postgraduate study in advanced dietetics, public health, or research-focused nutrition. By combining rigorous science, applied skills, and professional experience, the Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics prepares students to lead initiatives that improve health outcomes, influence policy, and create lasting positive change in communities and populations.
