Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) (Honours) at Flinders University is structured to equip students with the technical knowledge, practical skills, and industry experience required to excel in civil engineering. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through core topics in engineering design and problem-solving, mathematics and physics for engineers, materials, and programming for engineers. This initial year builds the analytical, computational, and practical abilities necessary for advanced engineering studies.In the second year, students focus on essential civil engineering disciplines, including structural mechanics and analysis, fluid mechanics and water engineering, transportation and geomechanics, and geospatial information systems. These topics provide a comprehensive understanding of the principles and techniques required to design and analyze infrastructure systems while applying engineering theory to real-world challenges.The third year advances students’ knowledge in civil engineering design and sustainable infrastructure. Core topics include advanced structural and geotechnical design, water resources engineering, project management, and sustainable infrastructure, complemented by work-integrated learning and a 20-week industry placement. This combination of theoretical study and hands-on experience allows students to apply their skills in real-world contexts, enhancing professional readiness and industry engagement.Throughout the degree, students gain exposure to modern engineering technologies, sustainable practices, and project management strategies, ensuring they are capable of addressing the complex demands of contemporary civil engineering projects. By the end of the program, graduates are equipped to design and construct resilient infrastructure, contribute to smarter cities, and lead projects that balance innovation, functionality, and sustainability.
